Description |
United States Army jacket. Part of Axel Madsen's World War I uniform (1997.006.002-.006). Army-issue green-brown jacket. Roughly hip length. Missing all buttons and insignia. Jacket has a half collar, which does not fold down. Collar has one large round metal pin on the proper left, it reads "US / 30". Each shoulder has one shoulder strap, which would have been secured by a button. There are two pockets at the chest and two at the hips, one on either side for both. Each pocket would have been secured with a button. Jacket has five button holes, but no buttons, for main opening. Appears to be missing eye-and-hook closures from the top and bottom of the opening as well. The insignia on the proper left arm has been removed, but remnants of stitches at the wrist, upper arm and shoulder indicate where they once were. Inside the lining on the proper left side there is a sewn label--"SPER-MEL CLOTHING CORP. / 37 1/2 -47 1/2 / Broome St. NY / CONTRACT No. 5540 N. 27376 / NEW YORK DEPOT / INSPECTOR AT A.T. / No. 15 ". Loop at back of collar, as well as a label that is no longer legible. Two small "X" marks on proper right interior collar. |
