Description |
A men's dress jacket, part of a suit. The jacket is made from black wool with a shiny, black fabric interior, possibly a cotton blend. There is a four button closure at front with buttons that are covered in black fabric. There are two buttons at each cuff as well. There are slit pockets at the waist. An interior breast pocket is located at the proper right. A tag sewn at the back interior of the collar reads, "HART SCHAFFNER & MARX / H.S.& M. / VARSITY STYLE." |

This wedding jacket is part of a suit (1992.112.4a-c) worn by the donor's father, Hans Smith Rattenborg, on his wedding day. Hans was married to Anna Helena Mathilda Christensen on February 27, 1903 in Hamlin, Iowa. ----------------------------------------------------------- FAMILY HISTORY: Hans Smith Rattenborg was born April 22, 1874 in Arnitlund Parish, Vested, Denmark. He immigrated to the United States in 1880 with his father, brother, and sister. He married Anna Helena Mathilda Christensen on February 27, 1903. Hans was a farmer and a charter member of the Hamlin Lutheran Church (in 1904). He held offices there and was also a Township School Director for many terms. He was the director of Audubon Creamery for a time. Hans died July 1, 1955 in Hamlin, Iowa and is buried in Hamlin Cemetery. Hans' parents were Willads Smith Rattenborg and Bodil Vind Jensen Rattenborg. |
