Description |
Pastors chair from the old Elk Horn Lutheran Church. Mahogany, applied carving back, front of seat and legs, high solid back, arms. Seat cushion missing. Seat back has a sort of shield shape to it and three raised points at the top. At the center is an oblong, verticaly oriented, detail with a border around it and a face at the top with scrolled designs around and below. The arms curve slightly. The front piece of the chair frame that acts as the seat rail and attaches to the bottoms of the handles us a large "U" shape. The legs are also curved slightly and have appliqued leaves. There is another appliqued design of scrolls/feather like shapes at the front center seat rail. |

The items in this gift lot were used by Pastor Anders Hansen who came to Elk Horn from Ruskin, Nebraska in 1931. He started the Salem Homes in 1932 in the old college building. He passed away before the new retirement home was built, but he worked hard to develop plans and lay the groundwork to make it a reality. He was Virgil's father. |
