Description |
A wedding sash or belt, part of a wedding gown (1989.115.001a-c). The sash is made from off-white or nude colored satin. The sash is tucked and shirred, creating a flat ruffled appearance throughout. There are three sets of metal hook and eye closures that secure the sash around the waist. |

This sash or belt was part of a wedding gown that was worn by Minnie Frederickson when she married LeRoy Christiansen on April 24, 1907. She married LeRoy at her parent's home, a farm four miles southeast of Harlan, Iowa. She was 21, and he was 23. The donor's believe the dress pieces were handmade by Minnie with help from her sister, Ida Frederickson. Both Minnie and LeRoy were born in the United States, but their parents were Danish immigrants. The couple had at least two children, the donor's of this gift lot, Doris Anne (Anderson) and Elliot. ------------------------------------------------------------------ FAMILY HISTORY NOTES: Minnie's Parents: Lars Frederickson was born near Aalborg, Denmark in 1842. Anna Johannesdatter was born near Barmer, Denmark in 1852. The couple married in Denmark in 1876, and they immigrated to the United States in 1878. LeRoy's Parents: LeRoy's father, Marinus Christiansen, was born in Wisconsin in 1858. His parents, Mr. and Mrs. C.B. Christiansen, were both born in Dollerup, Denmark and immigrated to the United States in the early 1850s. LeRoy's mother, Anna Nasby, was born in Sejiflod, Denmark and immigrated to the United States at a young age in 1855. |
