Provenance |
This donation came from the estate of Andrew and Ch/Kristina (multiple spellings of her name throughout file) Jorgensen and from Kaj Esmond (according to a letter from June Sampson, 04/05/1988). The Jorgensen's were the parents of the donor's wife, Beatrice. None of the items in the donation are individually documented. FAMILY HISTORY: Andrew Jorgensen was born March 27, 1863 in Denmark. He immigrated to the U.S. at the age of 20 and lived here for 55 years. He worked as a farmer in Minnesota before dying at the age of 75 in 1938. Multiple copies of the Bronson Budget and one copy of the Northwestern Minnesota News all dating to April 1938 are in the permanent file. They contain information related to Andrew's death. Ch/Kristina was born May 21, 1868 in Sweden. She died August 30, 1924. She married Andrew Jorgensen in 1891. Together they had nine children (in birth order): Carrie (m. Edgar O. Magnuson, d. May 17, 1967); Agnes (m. Ors Woolery, Great Falls, MT, d. July 7, 1962); Alma (Johnson); Arthur (b. August 3, 1898, d. August 4, 1962); Alfred (d. December 24, 1972) and Andrea (d. April 26, 1910), twins; William (d. September 20, 1974); Ester; and Beatrice. Beatrice was born on February 19, 1910. She married Marius Jensen, the donor, on April 6, 1940 in Minneapolis. They had one daughter, Linda, born May 28, 1947. Linda married Thom Prince and they had two sons, James and Bryan. A continued family history written by Beatrice Jensen with photographs is in the permanent file. At the end of the article, Jensen mentions that objects were given to "the Museum (none specified) together with some Indian artifacts, old machinery of different kinds." There is no date on the article and no way to verify whether this is our museum or not. No other mention of these objects can be found in the permanent file. The three Jorgensen sons never married. They saved old newspapers, magazines, catalogues, and calendars from 1915 and older. |
