Provenance |
Donor's mother was a Carlsen (Anna Carlsen). Both of her maternal grandparents were Danish immigrants. They settled in Elk Horn and lived out their lives in Elk Horn. Both were from the same town in Denmark- the Slesvig-Holstein part of Denmark which was then in Danish position. Donor's mother Anna (b. 1883) was the oldest child. Anna went to Denver as a young woman, met donor's father, married and settled in Denver. This is where donor was born. Bud Carlsen was donor's cousin, the son of Jens Carlsen, Anna's younger brother. He lived on the grandfather's original farm outside of Elk Horn. Bud died in March or April of 2000. The spoons came from the grandfather's family-Jens Carlsen and Jensina Carlsen and would have been collected by the daughters (including donor's mother) as they traveled about. The spoons came to donor through one of her aunts and represent the family's trips. The girls, especially, did a lot of traveling all across the country.-From phone interview with donor 11/28/2002 |
