Description |
The trunk is crafted out of black metal with gold colored embellishments and is rectangular in shape. The top design of the trunk is two metal strips, measuring half an inch each, that overlap in a perpendicular angle at the center. This crossing creates four small rectangles. A square metal sheet covers the intersection of the two strips. Remnants of a paper label are visible in the front proper right section of the trunk top. All of the edges of the trunk are covered with one inch metal panels that are secured with nails. All of the corners of the trunk are covered with a circular metal plaque, for a total of eight. A six-pointed star is attached to the center of each of these eight plaques. On the front, two metal strips cross in the same perpendicular pattern as the top of the trunk. Along the center line, where the trunk opens, is a series of six latches and locks. At the center of the line is a circular lock and on either side of center is a covered latch. On the outer sides of the covered latches are the two clasp latches. There is also an additional latch on the edge of the proper right side of the front. Label remnants are located on the upper proper right section and are too worn to read. Above this is a small square label reading, "NATIONAL/ TRUNK/COORPORATION/ MADE IN RACINE, WIS. U.S.A." The proper right side of the trunk has a leather handle at center. It is embossed with the number "15" on the viewer's left side and the sequence, "114 B" on the center. There are approximately six labels on this side of the trunk. All are too worn, discolored, or ripped to read. The initials "G.W.B." are visible in gold lettering on the center bottom of this side. The proper left side of the trunk is missing its handle. The number "228" has been written on the metal with an orange grease pencil two times. On the reverse side of the trunk are three diamond brackets. |
