Description |
Framed set of nine Dania ribbons. Assemblage is homemade, not professionally done. In each upper corner is a white section of a ribbon--the tab is white with a U.S. and a Danish flag crossed over top, and a medal sort of attachment at the end. This medal portion is white with a gold border and in the middle is a shield that resembles the Danish flag. Inside the horizontal white bar of the flag is "DANIA." The lower seven ribbons are each different. Viewer's left to right: 1-dark purple ribbon with a bow at the top and metal threaded fringe at the bottom. Reads in silver down the ribbon: "DANIA / Reception / Committee" with scroll designs above and below. 2-off white/light ribbon with a gold sequined star at the top and metal threaded fringe at the bottom. Reads in gold at the center "RECEPTION / Committee" and has a floral design above and below. 3-red ribbon with a bar at the top which has an illustration of hands clasped in a handshake. It has metal threaded fringe at the bottom. The same white tab that is displayed in the upper corners of the assemblage is attached to the bar and hangs over the red. Below this tab is text in gold "SOCIETY DANIA / NO. 6, / D.S.D.F. OF A. / MINNEAPOLIS, MINN." 4-off white/light ribbon with a gold sequined star at the top and metal threaded fringe at the bottom. Reads in gold at the center "INVITATION / Committee" and has a floral design above and below. 5-black ribbon with a bar at the top which has an illustration of hands clasped in a handshake. It has metal threaded fringe at the bottom. Down the ribbon in silver is "In Memoriam / SOCIETY DANIA / NO. 6, / D.S.D.F. OF A. / MINNEAPOLIS, MINN." and between "In Memoriam" and "Society Dania" is the Dania shield. 6-off white/light ribbon with a gold sequined star at the top and metal threaded fringe at the bottom. Reads in gold at the center "Committee / Arrengements" and has a floral design above and below. (Note: "Arrengements" is printed on the ribbon--I assume it was supposed to be "Arrangements".) 7-light blue ribbon with a bow at the top and metal threaded fringe at the bottom. It reads in silver down the ribbon "DANIA / Arrangement / Committee" with a scroll below the "Dania" and at the bottom. On the front, at top center is text in red, "SOCIETY DANIA", and below is a note typed in black on white paper: "THESE RIBBON'S WERE WORN AT CLUB MEETINGS, CONVENTIONS, / AND PARADE'S FROM LATE 1880'S UP THRU LATE 1930'S. / THE LARGE RED RIBBON'S WERE REVERSED TO THE BLACK SIDE / WHEN WORN AT FUNERAL'S AND REVIEWAL'S. OF DESEASED MEMBER'S." The assemblage is housed under glass in a brown wooden frame with white foam core backing which is stapled on. On the reverse side at center is stenciled "PROPERTY / SOCIETY / DANIA". |
