Description |
Jumper. Part of a child's folk dance costume (2000.062.002a,b). Jumper has a sleeveless, bright red, satin-lined bodice and a vertically-striped skirt of red, yellow, white light blue and royal blue. Two rows of red seam binding tape along bottom edge of the skirt. The proper front center opening of the bodice has 5 pairs of tiny brass rings for a length of gold piping to lace through. The proper front opening and the neckline are trimmed with yellow, red, and blue ribbons. One of the red ribbons features golden chevrons designs. Zipper opening down proper front center of skirt. The zipper is painted bright red and the zipper tab has the word "TALON". |

This child's folk dance costume (2000.062.002a,b) was made by donor Doris Kirkegaard Kazenske for her daughter, Katherine Ann Kazenske. Katherine Ann was a member of the Danish American Athletic Club (DAAC) in 1968 and 1969. Katherine Ann would have been 10 years old at the time. The museum's collection has a photograph (2000.237.001) from May of 1968, which shows show Katherine Ann wearing this folk costume. She is in the middle row on the viewer's far left. Donor Doris Kirkegaard was the daughter of Danish immigrants Hans Kirkegaard and Thora Andersen Kirkegaard. As a young girl and teenager, Doris was a member of DAAC from 1944-1949. The museum's collection contains two of Doris' folk costumes (2000.062.001a-c and 2000.062.003a-c). |
