Description |
One of three matching "huck towels" (1987.091.002-.004). Rectangular, off-white towel made from coarse cotton. Plain, with no decoration. A piece of twill tape is centered at one of the short edges to allow the towel to be hung from a hook. The two long edges are machine hemmed. |

These three towels (1987.091.002, .003 and .004) were brought to the U.S. by Johanne (née Thomsen) Olsen from Hirtshals, Jutland, Denmark, about 1892. Johanne later married Louis (formerly Lars) Olsen, a Danish immigrant from Sjælland. He immigrated to Chicago in 1895 and later became a rutabaga wholesale dealer in Askov, Minnesota. |
