Description |
Wood chisel. The handle is turned wood, mostly oblong in shape. The outer end is rounded. At the opposite end, the iron chisel portion slides into the wood. The chisel is flat on one side and three sided on the other--it has a sort of roof-like look. Imprinted into the upper end of the three sided side is an image of an elephant and then "EDW. ZINN / SWEDEN". On the reverse, on the flat side, is imprinted "ERIK ANTON BERG / ESKILSTUNA / SWEDEN". |

The tool box in this gift was made and used by the donor's father, Carl C. Olsen, who came from Copenhagen to Minden, Nebraska in 1883. He learned his trade as a cabinet maker and carpenter in Denmark, which required five years of training. Mr. Olsen made the tool chest in about 1922 and used it and the tools for his own projects. The donor's father was Carl C. Olsen, who came from Copenhagen to Minden, Nebraska in 1883. He learned his trade as a cabinet maker and carpenter in Denmark, which required five years of training. Carl was born on August 29, 1859. After immigrating he was a member of the Danish Brotherhood Lodge No. 16 in Minden, Nebraska. He passed away in Maxwell, NE on March 30, 1952, and was buried in the family lot in Minden. Carl sent for Anna Martine Jensen, the donor's mother, a year after he arrived, and they were married October 4, 1884 in Fredericksburg, Nebraska. Anna became a member of the Danish Sisterhood Lodge. |
