Provenance |
These matching pillowcases and a sheet (1993.005.041) were made by Bertine Jensen in 1904 for her trousseau. The museum's collection also contains a bedding set that was handwoven and made for Bertine's trousseau by Bertine's grandmother around 1877. Bertine brought both of these bedding sets, as well as two heirloom folk costumes, when she immigrated to the United States in 1906. Bertine Jensen (later Bertine Jensen Norregaard) was born in 1877. Bertine met her future husband, Jacob Norregaard, in 1903-1904, when they were both teaching gymnastics and folk dancing at folk schools in Denmark. They became engaged, and Jacob sailed from Bremerhavn to Tyler, Minnesota in 1905. Bertine emigrated shortly thereafter, and the two were married in Minneapolis, Minnesota on 10 November 1906. Bertine died in 1973. |
