Description |
Round Norweigan or Swedish medal, no attachment. On one side is a figure in a long, draped robe. That figure is holding a book in her hand, and has a hat on. There is an owl in front of her, at about knee height. Around the edge is "VOVENS ET MEMOR UNIVERSITAS REGIA FREDERICIANA". On the other side are reliefs of the king and queen of Norway from the necks up. Around the edge of that side is "CAROLUS ET LOUISA NORW. SVEC. REX ET REGINA". Curator's note: Figure on the medal is the Greek goddess Athena. The owl is associated with her. (Tova Brandt, 12/19/2013) According to intern Tina Wittorf, sometimes royalty of Norway or Sweden became the royalty of the other country through marriage. This medal could be either, she thinks. |
