Provenance |
These doll clothes (1995.130.005a-e) are presumed to go with doll 1995.130.002, which was brought over by the donor's mother, Alma Alfreida Schaltz Jacobsen, when she immigrated in 1913. Alma cherished that doll all her years. Her four children were only allowed to look at it and could not play with it. Alma Alfreida Schaltz Jacobsen was the donor's mother. Alma was born in 1885, and her father died when she was five. Alma's mother died around 1913 (before Alma immigrated to the United States). Alma first worked in Copenhagen and then was sponsored by a friend for her fare from Aalborg to America in 1913. Alma immigrated by herself to Williams Bay, Wisconsin. She married a Danish immigrant named Martin Jacobsen at an unknown date. Alma worked as a dressmaker. Martin Jacobsen immigrated to the U.S. circa 1908 and settled in Chicago, Illinois. |
