Description |
Tablecloth. Handmade. Made from white damask with a stripe pattern and rectangular in shape. Tablecloth is composed of two long panels, each panel measuring approximately 28.5 inches wide, that have been sewn together down the proper center. Both short sides of the tablecloth are edged with white blanket stitching. |

Provenance |
This tablecloth was handwoven by the donor's mother, Christina (née Petersen) Hansen in Denmark. She brought this tablecloth, as well as pillowcase 1991.185.012, with her when she immigrated in 1887. Christina (née Petersen) Hansen was born in Breda-Bro Denmark on 1 September 1869. Christina immigrated in 1887 with an aunt and uncle when she was sixteen or seventeen years old. She was enrolled in school. After finishing eigth grade, she worked as a domestic until her marriage to Hans Christian Hansen on 5 March 1887. They settled on a farm near St. Ansgar, Iowa and had two children. Christina passed away in November of 1922. |
