Description |
Danish flag on a silver metal stand. The stand is situated on a square base made out of a heavy dark grey and white marble. The stand has a tapered point at the top and concentric circles near the square part of the bottom. An inscription near the bottom of the stand reads, "D.A.K./ AALBORG/ FÆLLESREJSEN/ 1951." A white piece of twine secures the flag to the stand. Twine appears to be decorative and non-functional. Flag has a split tail and has a thin gold border. Gold paint on flag reads, "1864/ Dybbøl du glemmes ej. (Dybbøl you shall not be forgotten)/ 1920." Provenance |
The flag on the stand was Inga's and Axel's, and they brought it from Denmark. They came to the U.S. in 1955. Axel may have gotten it from his father, Valdimar Hermansen. Info on the flag from John Mark--1864 = when Denmark lost Sleswig-Holstein, 1920 = reunification, 1951 (the date on the base) = one year after the 30th anniversary of the reunification. |
