Description |
An apron. The full-length white cotton apron has two pink appliqued flowers that act as pockets. There is a simple black stitch along the edges. The apron has a flap that fits over the head and on the shoulders. The flap is connected to each side with white plastic buttons. |

This apron was owned and made by the donor, Karen Marie (Madsen) Petersen. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Karen Marie (Madsen) Petersen was the daughter of Soren and Christine Wolf Madsen. She was born in Audubon County, Iowa on 15 December 1888 and died on 27 October 1984 in the Salem Nursing Home in Elk Horn, Iowa. She attended country schools in Audubon County and completed two years at Elk Horn College. She studied teaching and taught for three years. She then attended Highland Park College in Des Moines, Iowa. After receiving her degree she taught in Exira, Iowa; Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Seattle, Washington. In 1921, she married Elmer E. Petersen and they farmed near Exira. After Elmer's death in 1955, she sold the farm and returned to teaching until her retirement. She was a member of the West Exira Seventh-Day Adventist Church near Exira. |
