When crocheting, this thread holder could be used to store the ball of thread with which one is working. The handle on the bag could be used to hang off one's arm and keep the thread within easy reach. This thread holder might have been made or used by the donor, Karen Marie (Madsen) Petersen No further information regarding this gift. ------------------------ Donor, Marie Petersen was the daughter of Soren and Christine Wolf Madsen, and died at the Salem Nursing Home in Elk Horn, Iowa at the age of 95 years, 10 months, and 12 days. She attended country schools in Audubon County and completed two years at Elk Horn College. She studied teaching and taught for three years. She then attended Highland Park College in Des Moines, Iowa. After receiving her degree, she taught in Exira; Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Seattle, Washington. In 1921, she married Elmer E. Petersen, and they farmed near Exira. After Elmer's death in 1955, she sold the farm and returned to teaching until her retirement. She was a member of the West Exira Seventh-day Adventist Church near Exira. |
