The slip (1987.135.002) was handmade by the donor's mother, Florence Kristina Frederiksen Koefoed McWilliams. Several of the girls in the family used this slip. ------------------------------------------ FAMILY HISTORY: Florence was the daughter of Danish immigrants, Neils Frederiksen and Dorothy Marie Mikkelsen Frederiksen. Florence was born in Iowa, but her parents returned to Denmark shortly after her birth. Florence returned to Grundy County, Iowa, when she was about five years old. Dorothy Marie Mikkelsen Frederiksen immigrated from Denmark to Ohio, where she worked as a governess. Later, Dorothy moved to Iowa, where she kept house for her brothers, Miller Mikkelsen and Laurie [spelling?] Mikkelsen. Dorothy married Niels Frederiksen, and the couple had eight children. Dorothy and Niels returned to Denmark for a few years, after the birth of their daughter Florence, but they returned to Grundy County, Iowa when Florence was about five years old. |
