Provenance |
This pin belonged to Christian Neergaard, the donor's father. The donor's grandparents, Peder and Kirsten Neergaard were farmers from Nødager, Denmark (the Grenaa-Æbeltoft area of Jylland). In 1888, they immigrated to Canada with their three sons, Christian, Achton, and Sophus. Peder and his sons worked on the Canadian railroad. The family moved south to Washington state and worked their way east to Wisconsin. Kirsten Neergaard died in 1905. Peder asked her sister, Maren Jensen, still in Denmark to come to America to help with the family. She arrived with Olivia Poulsen in Kenosha, WI. Olivia married Christian in 1907. Together they had Kirsten (1908) and the donor, Rita Neergaard Hansen (1912). Olivia died in 1930. |
