Description |
Box that holds a wedding band (1985.046.016a). Light blue in color, rectangular. No print or other decoration on the box. The surface is slightly textured. There is a sort of outer shell that is just slightly wider. The center of the box is inset slightly and contains a padded white velvet cushion. There are two parts to the cushion and between them is where the ring sits. |

The ring belonged to the donor's wife Elvine Nielsen Kristoffersen Jensen Bager. ---------------------- Eli Bager (93) moved to the Kanawha Community Care Center in May of 1982, he had been a resident of Lu Verne for 25 years before he sold his home. Eli was a carpenter by trade and started his apprencticeship when he was 14 years old and at the age of 18 was a full-fledged carpenter. He was born in Marstal, Denmark. His father died when he was seven months old after a shipwreck. In 1907 he came to the United States as an accomplished carpenter, but couldn't speak English. He was married in 1928 (Elvine Nielsen Kristoffersen Jensen), they adopted a son, Elmer, when he was six days old. They made their home in Chicago until the Depression and then they moved to Lu Verne, where he and his wife had two sisters, Mrs. Axel (Christina) Nielsen and Anna Ruberg. He then worked for Union Construction Co. and built farm buildings on the Hanna Ranch and later with Zackery W. Thomas. He retired at 65 years of age. |
