Description |
Ceramic milk pail with lid (1999.011.004b). It appears that a green glaze has been poured on the pail as drip marks are evident. The handle is firmly attached to the pail, making it one solid piece. There are three "finger pinches" on each side of handle towards the rim. Notes: There are three darker green "ripples" around the rim and four darker green ripples around the center. The pail is darker green on lowest quarter and the base is not glazed. Dimensions: H: 11 1/2": depth: 6 1/2": (handle) 13": (mouth opening) 6 1/4"; (lid) diam: 5 1/4" |

Milking pail belonged to the donor's great-grandparents, Peter Christensen and Marie Jensen Christensen. The family immigrated to the United States from Schleswig-Holstein to avoid the donor's grandfather Christen being taken into the German army. The family settled in Garwin, Iowa. |
