Description |
Woven off white linen pillowcase with cross stitch designs on it. The background is an outline of the country of Denmark in green with red "x"s scattered along borders--perhaps where major cities are? In the center of the country, over the top, is a blue car, a 1950s or 1960s style, with a yellow top. In the upper right corner is a Danish flag, and at the bottom center is the year 1968. In the upper left corner is "TONY", in the upper right below the flag is "JOHNNY", in the lower left is "SIGRID", and in the lower right is "TAGE". The four names are the donor, his wife, and his sons. Yellow zipper on the back at the bottom. |

Provenance |
The pillowcase was cross-stitched by donor's mother, Dagmar Jensen of Denmark. The four names stitched on the pillowcase are those of the donor, his wife, and his sons. The donor, Tage Jensen, was a Danish immigrant. His mother was not. According to FHGC librarian Michele McNabb, it was common for people to have these kinds of pillows in the backseats of cars. |
