Provenance |
This child's costume (2000.062.001a-c) belonged to donor Doris Kirkegaard Kazenske. The bonnet (2000.062.001a) and the insert in the apron (2000.062.001c) were embroidered and made by an aunt in Copenhagen; the skirt (2000.062.001b) was either made by this same aunt or by the donor's mother. The costume was received in this country prior to World War II. Doris eventually outgrew this costume. Then, in 1944, Doris obtained another costume (2000.062.003a-c), which is also in the museum's collection. However, Doris continued to use bonnet 2000.062.001a with her larger costume. Donor Doris Kirkegaard was the daughter of Danish immigrants Hans Kirkegaard and Thora Andersen Kirkegaard. She was a member of Danish American Athletic Club (DAAC) from 1944-1949 in Chicago, Illinois. Later, Doris' daughter, Katherine Ann Kirkegaard, was also a member of DAAC from 1968-1969. |
