A wooden toy man, standing. He is dressed in a black suit and shoes with his neck and hands painted white (fits on 98.28.01). he is also wearing a black cap that has a small bill. The man's cheeks are tinted a pink, rosy color. His hands lay at his side. The man has no ears, and the other visible features are of simple design. |

The wooden toy was made for the donor when he was a baby by Jens Peter Jensen of Harlan, Iowa. Donor's Family History: Ane Marie Frederiksen was the donor's grandmother. She was the daughter of Paul and Anna Marie Frederiksen. She was born in Rynkeby in the Parish of Ringe on the island of Fyn. Ane came to this country at the age of seven when her parents, five brothers, and three sisters immigrated in 1873. An older brother stayed in Denmark and an infant sister died at sea. Ane's family lived first in the Albert Lea/Geneva, MN area before settling on their farm homestead about six miles northwest of Blooming Prairie. Ane's future husband Mathias was born October 9, 1857. His mother passed away when he was young and his father remarried. He came to the U.S. in 1874 at the age of 17. He located in the Blooming Prairie area. He and Ane were married March 15, 1884--Mathias aged 26, Ane 17. In 1896, Mathias built the large home known as the home place. He died at the age of 52. He and Ane, aged 43 at that time, had 13 living children, 10 of which were still in the home. |
