Later Lars settled on some land in Sharon Township, Audubon County, Iowa. He married a Danish immigrant named Ane Katrine Andersen on 8 March 1895. He bought a farm 3 miles west of Elk Horn and lived there until his retirement in 1932, when he moved to Kimballton, Iowa. Thomas was active within the local community, serving as a Township Trustee.
