Description |
A needlework pattern. The pattern is printed on a rectangular piece of linen. The pattern is oval in shape with a scalloped edge that has a circle on each petal. There is a section where the embroidery was begun and remains unfinished. The letter set "O.O.E" and the number sequence "68-2934" are printed along the bottom and each of the short sides. |

No specific information is known about the pattern. FAMILY HISTORY: Permanent file includes newspaper articles about Denmark and other various topics and obituaries of the donor's relatives. Carl M. and Jane Marie Holm Ekwall were the maternal grandparents of the donor. They came from the Bornholm region of Denmark. Carl was born August 28, 1891 and Jane Marie was born January 8, 1892. Carl arrived in America in 1914 through Ellis Island. He sent for Jane Marie Holm in 1915. They were married in Cedar Falls, IA on January 28, 1916. The wedding dress was worn by Jane Marie Holm on her wedding day. According to the donor's mother, the dress came from Denmark. Carl and Jane Marie had two children- Lillian Marie and Edward. Carl and Jane Marie farmed and raised their children in Nashua, IA. Once their children were grown, Carl and Jane Marie moved around Iowa managing different taverns. In 1947, Carl and Jane Marie moved to Waterloo, IA, where their daughter Lillian lived. Lillian married Bill Griefnow in 1938. Later that year, donor Janet (née Griefnow) Russell was born. In 1942, Edward joined the Air Force and served in World War II from August 1942 until December of 1945. Edward married Leola Bartl on March 7, 1942. In 1944, Edward and Leola had a son, William Carl "Bill" Ekwall. William Carl "Bill" became a police officer in 1971. He and wife Denise had three children- William, Jamie, and Lyndsey. Edward died in 1947 at the young age of 28. Jane Marie died November 21, 1952. Carl died April 14, 1962. Lillian Ekwall Griefnow died October 18, 1984. All were buried in Nashua, IA. William Carl "Bill" Ekwall died of cancer on July 15, 1989. He is buried in Sunnyside Memorial Gardens in Charles City, Iowa. The donor, Janet Griefnow Russell, lived in Des Moines with her husband, Roy. They had three children- Roy D.W., Bill Edward, and JoAnna. They have six grandchildren. |
