Description |
A women's nightgown. The knee-length, white percale nightgown has a crocheted details at the neckline. The collar of the nightgown is crocheted with a pattern consisting of alternating triangles and squares. Each sleeve also has a crocheted lace edging. The body tapers outward slightly from the underarm to the hem. |

This nightgown was owned and made by the donor, Karen Marie (Madsen) Petersen. -------------------------------------------------------------------- Karen Marie (Madsen) Petersen was the daughter of Soren and Christine Wolf Madsen. She was born in Audubon County, Iowa on 15 December 1888 and died on 27 October 1984 in the Salem Nursing Home in Elk Horn, Iowa. She attended country schools in Audubon County and completed two years at Elk Horn College. She studied teaching and taught for three years. She then attended Highland Park College in Des Moines, Iowa. After receiving her degree she taught in Exira, Iowa; Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Seattle, Washington. In 1921, she married Elmer E. Petersen and they farmed near Exira. After Elmer's death in 1955, she sold the farm and returned to teaching until her retirement. She was a member of the West Exira Seventh-Day Adventist Church near Exira. |
