Provenance |
Brought for baptismal dinner of Andrew Lansman Christensen. Andrew Lansman Christensen was born November 25, 1895 in Sincal, Denmark. He immigrated to the U.S. iin 1914, and settled in Elk Horn. He died June 20, 1977. He married Mildred Kester, and together they had eight children. Andrew immigrated after family members had. They told him of the opportunities for farming and other employment. Lars Nelson, an uncle, invited him to stay on his farm in Fiscus, Iowa. Upon arrival, he changed his given name to Andrew L. Christensen because there were several cousins in the area that had the last name Lansman. He enlisted in the army in 1917, and served in the Coast Guard in the Phillipenes until the fall of 1919. He continued to work as a farm hand for different farmers. Andrew was introduced to Mildred Kester in Audubon, Iowa, by Clarence Nelson, who would become his brother-in-law. Mildred had graduated from high school in 1921 and she taught one year in a country school. They were married August 18, 1922. Because they were not able to rent a farm to begin farming on their own, they decided to move to Hemet, California, where Clarence and Pearl Nelson, Mildred's sister and brother-in-law, had moved. Clarence and Andrew both worked at the Howard Rose Company. Andrew remained employed with that company for the four years they were in California. Three sons were born to them while they were there. |
