Description |
Female cloth doll with embroidered face made of a stocking, light brown hair in two braids tied with red ribbons, blue eyes, and red lips. Dressed in green cap with lace and red ribbon trim, flowered blouse, red felt vest, green skirt, white lace apron, white stockings, and red shoes with flowered button as "buckle." Some beads on the front of the vest, but most are missing. |

The dolls (1985.026.003, .004, and .006) were made by Karen Jensen for donor Ellen's children circa 1977. Karen Jensen lived in Denmark and worked at the Royal Danish porcelain factory. The donor, Ellen Modeweg, was born February 19, 1888 and immigrated to the United States in June 1907. She married Charles Jensen in 1907, and they had four children. Charles worked for the Sante Fe railroads. He died in 1936. In 1949, Ellen remarried to another Dane, Carl Modeweg, who was the last family member of "Bredde Kladefabrik" near Lyngby in Denmark. Carl's grandfather was the last person to run the factory. The main building where the owner lived is now a museum. As of 1985, Ellen had 4 children, 14 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren. |
