DONOR INFO Michele spent nearly two years in Aarhus, Denmark between 1963 and 1965, where she learned Danish, attended university, and fell in love with Danish ways and design. She spent 1967-68 on a fellowship, again at Aarhus University, while getting a Masters in Scandinavian Languages and Literatures, this time living in a dorm . She didn't have much money either time, but tried to purchase beautiful things to furnish where she lived. Many were purchased in a now-defunct shop called Buus in downtown Aarhus, which specialized in Scandinavian design. Michele spent another eight months in 1987-88 living in a residential collective in Slagslunde, west of Copenhagen, while her husband had a sabbatical position at Danmarks Tekniske Højskole and their boys attended the local Danish school. She has since made trips to Denmark in 2005 and 2010. Most of these items were acquired during Michele's various stays, either as gifts or purchases. OBJECT INFO The orange glass candle holder was purchased at Buus during her first stay to add hygge to her rented room. It accompanied with the lamp in the Danish Modern exhibit and a small orange rya wall hanging. |
