Description |
Women's underwear, possibly a camisole or chemise. The one-piece garment is made from off-white silk jersey material. The top edge has lace trim sewn into place with pink thread. The straps consist of two pairs of pink satin ribbon that are tied together to create straps. The bottom edge has lace trim as well. On the back of the garment, there are four finished holes. The purpose of the holes is unknown, possibly used for ribbon? |

A handmade garment possibly owned by Karen Marie (Madsen) Petersen's older sister. ----------------------------------------------------------------- Karen Marie (Madsen) Petersen was the daughter of Soren and Christine Wolf Madsen. She was born in Audubon County, Iowa on 15 December 1888 and died on 27 October 1984 in the Salem Nursing Home in Elk Horn, Iowa. She attended country schools in Audubon County and completed two years at Elk Horn College. She studied teaching and taught for three years. She then attended Highland Park College in Des Moines, Iowa. After receiving her degree she taught in Exira, Iowa; Minneapolis, Minnesota; and Seattle, Washington. In 1921, she married Elmer E. Petersen and they farmed near Exira. After Elmer's death in 1955, she sold the farm and returned to teaching until her retirement. She was a member of the West Exira Seventh-Day Adventist Church near Exira. |
