Description |
The pouch-like purse is made of black velvet. Attached on one side is the back of a folk costume bonnet that has been turned upside down. The bonnet portion is decorated with gold-colored thread, sequins, and beads. There is a drawstring at the top of the purse to cinch the opening closed. |

The purse was made by the Danish firm Clara Waever from the bonnet of a folk costume. FAMILY HISTORY: Ellen was born February 19, 1888 and immigrated to the United States in June 1907. She married Charles Jensen in 1907. Charles died in 1936. They had four children. Charles worked for the Sante Fe railroads. In 1949 Ellen married another Dane, Carl Modeweg, who was the last family member of "Bredde Kladefabrik" near Lyngby in Denmark. Carl's grandfather was the last person to run the factory. The main building where the owner lived is now a museum. As of 1985, Ellen had 4 children, 14 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren, and 5 great great grandchildren. |
