Description |
Print: The horizontally oriented, color print is a reproduction of a painting by M. Arildskov. It depicts a rural landscape scene in Denmark with a church in the center surrounded by trees. The church is white with a reddish-brown roof. Next to the church on the viewer's left is a white house with a thatched roof. The land in the foreground is divided into sections with wooden fence posts. In the viewer's lower left corner is a small pond with two white storks on the bank. The sky is blue with large fluffy clouds. Frame: The print is held within a wooden frame with glass across the front. The front and sides of the frame are covered with dark brown varnish and the inner front edge of faced with shiny gold paper. A piece of beige pressed paper board is adhered to the back of the frame with staples. A piece of white computer paper is taped to the center of that board. Black text on that paper reads: "Danish Countryside Scene / Thatched-roof farmhouse and rural church / with storks in the foreground. / Reproduction of a painting by M. Arildskov / Purchased in Denmark and donated by Edward A. Hansen." |

Provenance |
The print is a reproduction of a painting by M. Arildskov. It was purchased by the donor while on a trip to Denmark. The donor was born in 1917 and was a Lutheran pastor, teacher, and bishop in Minneapolis, Minnesota. His father was Albert Hansen (1871-1943), a publisher, editor, state legislator, county auditor, mayor, and businessman in Harlan, Iowa. The donor's grandfather (Albert's father), Jens Hansen (1845-1922), was a Danish immigrant, pioneer, homesteader, and farmer in Elk Horn, Iowa. |
