Description |
The white stoneware pitcher is decorated with a dark brown transfer pattern. The design is clusters of stems with leaves and several kinds of flowers. Among some of the smaller clusters is a curving banner. Among the larger clusters is a rectangular landscape scene in the center of what looks like a carpet or a screen, the ends of which are angled in different directions. The foot is round and is slanted inward. The body of the pitcher is round and bulges out from the foot and then extends up at the neck. The neck slants slightly outward at the rim, which is slightly peaked on one side for form a subtle spout. The curved handle is attached to the side of the neck and body on the side of the pitcher opposite the spout. The handle has vertical ribs and a raised band around the perimeter near the top and bottom. A maker's mark on the bottom of the pitcher reads "JYLLAND" inside the outline of a lamp. Another maker's mark stamped into the edge of the foot is only partially legible: "AL____ / BO____". |
