Provenance |
The donor's grandparents, Mads and Maren Petersen came from Sønderjylland, Denmark. They were married in Sønderjylland in June 15, 1876. Mads immigrated to the U.S. in 1881 and Maren came the following year, 1882, with the donor's mother (no name given), who was nine months old. Together Mads and Maren settled in Detroit, MI with their four children. Mads was employed by the Parke Davis & Co., a pharmaceutical company, for 32 years. Hans Karl Jensen, the donor's father, was born in Nødager, Denmark on November 5, 1881. He came to the U.S. in January of 1901. On November 27, 1907, he married the donor's mother. Hans passed away on January 24, 1910, shortly before the donor's sister was born. After Hans passed away, the donor and her mother moved in with Mads, Maren, and their other children. The entire family were active members of the St. Peters Danish Lutheran Church. In 1930, most of the family spent two weeks visiting Denmark. Donor is not sure about the history of this pin. It may have belonged to either her grandfather or her father. |
