Provenance |
This breakfast tray doily was made by the donor's mother, Karen Marie Jensen. The museum's collection also contains a hedebo doily (1990.119.005), which was half complete when Karen died in 1908. Karen Marie Jensen was born in Esbjerg, Denmark. She came to America in 1903. Karen married a Danish immigrant, Mads Madsen Kastbjerg, from Borris, Denmark. Karen and Mads were married in August of 1903 by Pastor A. P. Hansen in Boston, Massachusetts. They lived in Northbridge, Whitinsville, Massachusetts. Mads worked at the Whitin Machine factory. He was a painter. Karen had two sons prior to daughter Lillian Margrette K. Poulsen (the donor). Lillian was born 12 February 1908 and Karen passed away 25 June 1908. In 1909 an immigrant from Denmark came to help take care of the children. This woman (only referred to as "Mom" by the donor) was married to Mads in 1911 by Pastor Aaberg in Worcester, Massachusetts. In 1913, Horman was born, followed by Alfred in 1915 and sister Mary in 1922. |
