Description |
Wooden tube with slide-on lid, intended to hold sewing needles. Blond wood, unvarnished. Printed on the side of the tube lengthwise in black is maker and content information. The tube is one diameter except for an expanded lip near where the lid connects. |

This goes to the sewing machine also found in this donation (see .001). The "husvennen" sewing machine was used by the mother of Dan Petersen, Mathilda (Mrs. Iver C.) Petersen and it dates to her wedding in 1921. She was born Mathilda Marie Andersen in Turner County, South Dakota on December 6th, 1894. Her family came from the island of Mors in Northern Jutland. Her father was Hans Rolighed Andersen and her mother was Bodil Katrine Nielsen. They were married in 1884. In 1891 Hans came to the United States, to Chicago, and worked as a carpenter. He brought the family over in 1892. Bodil, and Mathilda's two brothers and two sisters lived in Chicago until 1893 when they moved to Turner County. In Mathilda's teenage years the family moved to Tyler, Minnesota. She and her husband Iver had three sons. Mathilda died on February 1st, 1960 and Iver died on January 9th, 1963. |
