Provenance |
John (Jens) Christian Christensen and his brother Chris Christensen came together in 1889 to the U.S. They settled in Pukwanna, SD, where they had an uncle. He met them at the railroad station. They stayed there for a time and worked on farms and did other odd jobs. They ended up in Sioux Falls, SD working on the construction of the courthouse there. The donor did not know how they came to the Elk Horn area. Their parents were here, as it turned out. J.C. Christensen married Cora (Karen) Olsen in 1901. Chris Christensen became a Baptist after he came to the U.S. Went back to Denmark, met a young girl too young to marry, and then waited and went back later. They had four children and moved to the Dell Rapids area to farm. They retired there. Two more brothers, Andrew and Marius--came with parents--and one more to South Dakota (a banker--perhaps Chester?). Both ended up in California. |
