Description |
A wooden case that attaches and covers a typewriter (1987.040.001a). The case is a rectangular, wooden box that does not have a bottom. There is a simple etched outline on one side of the box for decoration. Another side has a brown, leather handle. The handle has metal fasteners on either end, attaching it to the case. On two of the sides at the bottom, there are metal latches. When the case covers the typewriter, the latches are secured onto metal bases that are located on the sides of the typewriter. There is a rectangular, paper label on the interior center of the case. The label has yellowed over time and has red and black print. The red print reads "IMPORTANT / Paste In Your Case / A POSTAL CARD WILL BRING YOU / INK ROLLS, TYPEWHEELS / an Repairs of all kinds. / From / STANDARD TYPEWRITER SERVICE / Agency for Blick Typewriters / 109 N. Dearborn Street Chicago, Ill. / Big offer on you Blick for any make." There has been black print typed over the label near the top that reads "ink rolls $1.50 per dozen / typewheels $2.00 each." |

The objects in this gift lot belonged to the donor's father, Niels Peter Nielsen, and were used at the various ministries he worked at throughout his career. Niels Peter Nielsen was born in Pottawatamie County, Iowa on December 24, 1883 to Peter Nielsen and his wife Caroline (Petersen). Niels was baptised in St. Pail's Lutheran Church in Boomer Township, and he attended Sunday school there as a child. He was confirmed on April 9, 1898. Niels spent the next five years at home helping his father on the farm. In the fall of 1905, he entered Dana College, where he spent five years. In 1910, Niels enrolled in Trinity Seminary, graduating in may of 1913. He was ordained on June 15, 1913 in Racine, Wisconsin. On September 11, 1913, he and Miss Caroline Olsen were united in marriage. He worked at several different locations throughout his career including Woodstock, Illinois; Clinton, Wisconsin; Atlantic, Iowa; Plainview and Winnetoon, Nebraska, Luck and North Luck, Wisconsin, Spring Valley and Turkey Valley South Dakota, Laurel, Nebraska. Early in May of 1947, Pastor Nielsen became ill. he moved to Blair, Nebraska for retirement. he died on March 31, 1952. Pastor and Mrs. Nielsen had 8 children, listed below with married names included. Mrs. Dagmar Knudsen, Mrs. Lydia Stave, Mrs. Lela Neve, Rudolph, Merl Dean, LeVern (donor), Carl, and Mrs. Vera Mae Doidge. |
