Description |
Tablecloth. Part of a set with twelve matching napkins (1989.102.001b-m). However, the shades of blue thread used in the embroidery is not consistent across the set. Made from white huck cloth and almost square in shape. Borders of tablecloth are decorated with dark blue and grey-blue floral embroidery in cross stitch. The floral embroidery is modeled after the Royal Copenhagen Blue Fluted Half Lace pattern. Design includes rectangular segments with a curving stem, two three-petaled flower heads, and circular and oblong buds branching off of it. Lines come down from the top of the segment to form repeating triangles. At the base of each dividing line between the segments, rounded shapes form a triangle. |

Provenance |
This tablecloth and napkin set was embroidered by the donor's mother, Lovise (née Hoeg) Horn, about 1900 for her trousseau. The cross stitch pattern is modeled after the Royal Copenhagen Blue Fluted Half Lace pattern. Lovise brought this set with her when she immigrated to Omaha, Nebraska in 1915 with husband Jacob Horn and son Gunnar. Jacob Horn was born in Aidt, Denmark in 1884. He was a contractor in Denmark until war disrupted his business. Jacob immigrated with his wife, Lovise Heog Horn (born 1882) and son Gunnar Horn in 1915. They settled in Omaha, Nebraksa, where Jacob worked as a carpenter. Jacob died in 1953 and Lovise died in 1961. Gunnar Horn grew up in Omaha and became head of the English department at Benson High School. |
