Provenance |
No further information regarding this gift. Donor Kate Lauritsen was born in 1891. Her mother died shortly after Kate was born. Kate's father was Lars Reinhold (whose name was Petersen, but because of the large number of Petersens, he dropped that name and used his middle name instead. Lars came to the U.S. in 1888, worked for a year, and then sent for his sweetheart. Lars went to Denmark for a visit, but died there. The war had begun by then, so they couldn't ship the body back and he was buried in Denmark. (He had already booked passage back to the U.S., but the ship he would have traveled on sunk so he would likely have died at sea anyway.) Kate's husband was Chris Lauritsen, a banker in the Tyler area. They had celebrated their 65th anniversary as of June 1983. |
