Provenance |
This folk dance costume for a teenage girl (2000.062.003a-c) was made by Inger Rasmussen. It was worn by donor Doris Kirkegaard Kazenske from 1944-1949, when she was a member of the Danish American Athletic Club (DAAC) in Chicago, Illinois. The museum's permanent collection contains another folk costume (2000.062.001a-c), which was worn by Doris as a child. Although she outgrew most of the pieces from that costume, Doris continued to use bonnet 2000.062.001a with her larger costume. Also, the brass rings on this jumper were salvaged from a vest that was part of the child's folk costume. Donor Doris Kirkegaard was the daughter of Danish immigrants Hans Kirkegaard and Thora Andersen Kirkegaard. She was a member of Danish American Athletic Club (DAAC) from 1944-1949 in Chicago, Illinois. Later, Doris' daughter, Katherine Ann Kirkegaard, was also a member of DAAC from 1968-1969. |
