Description |
Wood plaque from the National Board of Directors from the dedication of the National Headquarters' Building of the Danish Brotherhood in America organization. The plaque is wood and shaped like a vertically oriented rectangle. Two metal sheets are above center on the viewer's right and viewer's left. The metal is black with silver lettering and is mounted on larger silver metal sheets. The one on the viewer's left reads, "THE NATIONAL BOARD OF DIRECTORS/TAKES GREAT PLEASURE/IN DEDICATING THE/NATIONAL HEADQUARTERS' BUILDING/LOCATED AT/3717 HARNEY STREET/OMAHA, NEBRASKA/TO THE MEMORY OF/Axel Skelbeck/PAST-SECRETARY-TRESURER/ON THE/TWENTIETH DAY OF MARCH, 1987". The one on the viewer's right reads, "A LONG-TIME DREAM WAS/REALIZED FOR AXEL WHEN THE/NATIONAL HEADQUARTERS' BUILDING/WAS FIRST DEDICATED IN 1967./IT IS BECAUSE OF/THIS DREAM AND THE SELFLESS/INSPIRING SERVICE HE GAVE,/WE DEDICATE THE NATIONAL HEADQUARTERS' BUILDING/IN HIS MEMORY." In between these two sections, is a portrait of Axel Skelbeck, at top center. It is elevated, bordered by wood trim, and printed on metal-like sheeting. A caption below the portrait reads, "1904 AXEL SKELBECK 1986". The bottom half of the plaque is a large image of the National Headquarters' Building. It has five large windows across the front with gabled windows above each on the second floor. A twisted spire is on the roof at the center of the building. This image is also elevated, bordered by wood, and printed on metal-like sheeting. Screws are visible on the reverse side, ten in total. A label at bottom center reads, "MADISON'S/CENTER TROPHY/CUSTOM DESIGN/5435 Center Street/Omaha/94020538-4331". The wood on this side is not stained. |
