Belt. Part of a 3-piece dress (1991.188.005a-c). Made from black material. The material on the exterior surface of belt has a rippled appearance of many pleats (similar to black bands on dress 1991.188.005a). Belt secured by three black-painted metal hook-and-eye closures. Ends are slightly angled, not straight across. Machine-sewed. |

This dress was worn by the donor's grandmother, Johanna Ebbesen Madsen, on her golden wedding anniversary in 1937. The museum collection also contains the suit (1991.188.004a-c) worn by Johanna's husband, Hans Madsen, at their golden anniversary. The museum's collection has a photograph (1991.188.003) of the donor's grandparents at their Golden Wedding Anniversary. In the photograph, they are wearing the clothing in this gift lot. The donor's grandparents, Hans and Johanna Ebbesen Madsen, were Danish immigrants. They were married in 1887 and celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1937. They both lived in Kimballton, Iowa. Hans Madsen was the founder of Landmands National Bank in Kimballton. |
