Description |
White and red canvas bag. Open at the top, short side panels, flat bottom. On the front is a pocket that begins just below the viewer's right handle attachment and angles downward to the left edge. There is a snap at the top of this angle. The front panel of the bag is white and the sides, bottom, back, and handle are red. On the front is printed a heart. Inside is in white "Danish Sisterhood / of America" and then the Sisterhood insignia - a shield with "DSS" and a heart. Nothing on back. At the top are two handles, curved for a better grip. They connect to the top edge of the bag on front and back. Inside at the top center is a silver snap on each long side. On the inside of the printed side is a sort of vinyl layer as well as a vinyl covered bottom panel. When looking inside the bag, there is a fabric tag on the viewer's left edge (when the printed front is nearest the viewer). The tag is white and has in black text "R-BAG 68810 / Style 16124 RTPKT / P.O. 157 / MADE IN MALAYSIA". When donated, this bag had two buttons attached (see .011 and .012) to the front white panel. |

This bag was owned by the donor's mother Florence Glover who was a member of the Danish Sisterhood Lodge #163 in Austin, Minnesota. Florence was born here in the United States, the daughter of Danish immigrants Karl Otto Mortensen and Maren Ditlefsen Mortensen. Florence was one of ten children. Karl and Maren died young and the children were orphaned. |
