Provenance |
The tea set was an engagement gift in 1910 for Mata Gregersen, telephone operator, "central". It was from John Hansen, her fiance and the depot operator. Mata was born March 12, 1891, and married March 12, 1911. She lived in the Kimballton and Council Bluffs areas of Iowa. The set was subsequently owned by Mata's daughter Lyria (Hansen) Doering (?) and then by granddaughter Jerene (Doerring) Mortenson. John contracted tuberculosis and they moved to Denver, as it was believed at that time that the mountain air would be beneficial. He died at age 27. |
