Description |
Souvenir stone ax with contemporary wooden handle. The handle is slightly curved into an "S" shape and is tubular. It is light colored wood with many names, dates, and countries carved and burned into it. Attached at the top is a prehistoric stone ax head. The stone is gray and chipping marks are visible. It is thickest at the middle, sharpens toward the outer edge, and narrows at the end that inserts into the handle. There are three main sections of writing, detailed below. 1) On the side one sees when the stone head is facing the viewer's right are the following: (Column 1, viewer's left) "O.J.-MARGARET COOK / 81 / NEW ZEALAND ROBERT-BETTY STEIN / '82" (Column 2, center) "FEDERICO-LUCY COMPEANS / MEXICO '83 GENE-NANCY YOUNG / '84" (Column 3, right) "PAUL-EVA HYBSCHMANN / DENMARK '85 BILL-JULIE IVERSEN / '86" 2) On the side one sees when the stone head is facing the viewer's left are the following: (Column 1, viewer's left) "LYNN-JUDY JOHNSON / '70 / S. AFRICA BURT-MAVIS PFUHL / '71" (Column 2, center) "LARRY-MARY CULLISON / '72 / PHILIPPINES OSCAR-LYDIA GONZALES / '73 ARNIE-INGEBORG HAFTORN / NORWAY '77 BOB-RAMONA McKEE / '78" (Column 3, right) "BILL-MARY GOFF / SWEDEN '76 MARTIN-GUNNEL LINDSTROM / '75 MARVIN-JANICE WALTER / ENGLAND '79 PHILIP-JUNE BOOBYER / '80" 3) On the front end of the handle, just above the stone ax head: "1969 / ALLIN OAKIN" (the year is written vertically in front of the name) |
