Description |
This is the proper left glove of a pair of women's forearm-length gloves made of white leather. The seams along the fingers are stitched together on the exterior, creating raised ridges down the length of the fingers. On the interior of the wrist is a vertical slit held together with two round brass buttons that have an imprinted basket-weave pattern. There are three vertical lines of stitching on the back of the hand. |

The pair of gloves was donated by Isabel Larsen. They belonged to her mother, Helga Amalia Larsen. Family History: The donor's mother, Helga Amalia (née Læssøe) Larsen, was born in Copenhagen on November 5, 1868, the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Læssøe. In 1893, she came to America, residing in Chicago for four years and later moving to Lake County, Illinois. In 1903, Helga's husband, Peter Larsen (whom she married on March 26, 1898) purchased a farm on the state line in Kenosha County. Helga and Peter had six children. She resided in Kenosha the rest of her life. |
