Description |
Armrest doily, also known as an antimacassar. One of a matching pair (1992.017.002a,b). Part of a set of three doilies (1992.017.002a-c) meant to cover a chair or sofa. Doily is rectangular in shape with scalloped edges. Main body of doily consists of a file pattern with a design of a large rose and two small leaves. |

This set of doilies (1992.017.002a-c) was made by Christena Johnson. Christena Johnson was born Nov. 14, 1869 in Odense, Denmark, the middle island Fyn. Her father, Mike Johnson, came to the U.S.A. and after finding a home, sent money for his family to come as well. He became a jeweler in Scranton, Iowa. She married Robert Robertson on July 7 (year unknown). Robertson was born in Silkeborg, Denmark in 1865. He was a farmer near Scranton. They lived on a farm around Scranton until his retirement. Then, spent a few years in a house in Scranton, Iowa. Robert died in 1930, age 65 in Scranton, Iowa. Christena died in 1954, age 84 years. |
